Review: Alan Wake "The Signal" DLC

The Signal is the first DLC "Special Episode" for Remedy's Alan Wake on the Xbox 360. It picks up where the story left off in the main game so obviously it's meant to be played after finishing it.

If you haven't played Alan Wake (what's wrong with you?) then you can read my review and find out what all the fuss is about.

I've decided the best thing to do is review The Signal in two ways. The first is a spoiler-free answer for people wondering if it's worth their time. The second is a detailed discussion of the plot in The Signal meant to be read after you've finished it. I just had to share it with somebody :)

What follows first is my spoiler-free review.

Review: Singularity

Raven Software delivers Singularity, a time-manipulating FPS featuring superpowers, time paradoxes, and evil Russians. Lots of evil Russians.

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and Raven Software seems to agree. I can only assume this because they made a Bioshock game and then called it Singularity. Familiarity would be a more appropriate name.

I spent the first hour of Singularity groaning at the many "borrowed" gameplay elements from Bioshock, but eventually I warmed to the game's story and combat and had an enjoyable time. After all, Singularity comes from the folks behind last summer's Wolfenstein so these guys know how to make a shooter

Halo: Reach 'Forge World' Revealed at Comic-Con

This is very interesting. During it's Comic-Con panel, Bungie debuted a new mode in Halo: Reach called "Forge World".

This official video by Bungie does a better job than I ever could at explaining just what Forge World is, but I'm going to try anyway.

Think of Forge World as one giant map made up of five smaller maps. Remember that "Blood Gulch" remake video from a few weeks back? That classic map has been renamed 'Hemorrhage" and is one of the five areas making up Forge World.

Players will be able to use the upgraded Forge 2.0 toolset to craft their own customized Halo creations. Bungie calls it a "blank, Forerunner-themed canvas with unlimited creative potential."

September 14 can't get here fast enough.

Halo Reach Xbox 360 Bundle Coming September 14 For $399

You didn't think Microsoft was going to release a Halo game and not have a limited edition console to match it did you?

The silver Halo Reach Xbox 360 Bundle releases on September 14, the same day as Halo: Reach, and includes a 250GB hard drive, two silver wireless controllers with Halo: Reach artwork, a voucher for "Limited Edition Elite armor", a standard edition copy of Halo: Reach, headset, and an episode of the Halo Legends anime. It's available for pre-order now.

The new Xbox 360 slim looks great in silver, unlike the vomit-green Halo 3 360 from a few years back. Remember that thing?

Xbox 360 Kinect Priced At $150

Wonder no more, Microsoft officially confirmed that Kinect will be arriving on Nov 4 at a $150 retail price along with a copy of Kinect Adventures.

For weeks major retailers like Amazon, GameStop, and Walmart have been listing Kinect at $150 for preorder while Microsoft called the pricing "speculation" or declined comment.

All launch Kinect games will be priced at $49.99 rather than the usual MSRP of $59.99.

Additionally, Mircosoft will be releasing a Xbox 360 Kinect Console Bundle for $300 for those that don't already own a 360 and want to get in on the action.

So what do you guys think of the price?

2011 Ford Mustang aka My New Car

I know this isn't really gaming related, unless you're into racing games, but hey I'm sharing it anyway. I got a new car! It's a black 2011 Ford Mustang and I filmed this video of it when I got it home.

I'm interested to see how the Mustang in Gran Turismo 5 compares to the real thing.

Review: Crackdown 2

After a three year wait comes Crackdown 2, the sequel to 2007's sleeper hit from Realtime Worlds. In fact, it's success was such a surprise that Realtime Worlds had already began development of A.P.B. when the time came to craft the sequel and was unavailable for duty.

Enter Ruffian Games, a first time developer from Scotland born from two ex-Realtime Worlds employees, who took over the helm of Crackdown 2 development.

The question now is, did Crackdown 2 make the leap to perfection? Here's you answer:

Celebrate Bungie Day With A Halo Video

Today is the 7th day of the 7th month, aka Bungie Day, the day that developer Bungie celebrates it's indepencence by giving cool stuff to their fans. The rewards are twofold this year.

First, anyone playing Halo 3 online today will have access to the famous flaming helmets. You'd better hurry because these helmets are only usable today only. Things will be back to normal tomorrow.

Secondly, there's the Rooster Teeth (Red vs. Blue) produce video above that showcases a new bigger Blood Gulch map and apparently a new power-up for Halo: Reach, the holographic decoy. Also, notice the guy using the jetpack while carrying the flag which wasn't possible in the Reach beta.

Gears of War 3: BEAST MODE! Fan Video

I just had to post this video because it impressed me so much.

It's a fan-made tribute to Gears of War 3 entitled "Gears of War 3: BEAST MODE!" made by iSekC and posted on YouTube. In fact, it's so good that Gears of War designer Cliff Bleszinski even tweeted about it.

Words can't describe how great this is, so just sit back and watch the funniest gaming related video since Master Chief Sucks at Halo

Also, check out iSekC's YouTube channel for more of his videos. This guy is what YouTube is all about.
