Insomniac's Ted Price ends studio's involvement with Resistance series

Insomniac CEO Ted Price has taken to YouTube to explain his words from a recent interview that the developer is done making Resistance games.

After three titles, Price feels like "Resistance has reached it's logical conclusion in terms of the story we wanted to tell". He reminds fans that the series isn't finished as Nihilistic are prepping Resistance: Burning Skies for the PlayStation Vita sometime later this year and Sony are "shepherding" future Resistance game development.

How cool is it that the CEO of a major developer would take the time to do this and care what his fans think. This is one of the reasons why Insomniac is such a great place to work. Insomniac is currently working on their four-player co-op shooter Overstrike, the studio's first multiplatform game.

Puddle Review for Xbox 360

Puddle Xbox 360 Review Screenshot

As interesting as the concept of Puddle is, the story behind it’s creation is even better.

Originally developed by six college students in France as their class project, Puddle won a Student Showcase prize at the Independent Gaming Festival at GDC 2010. This brought the game to the attention of Konami who picked it up and are publishing it as a downloadable title for Xbox Live Arcade, PSN and the PS Vita. Those students are now a part of Neko Entertainment and their tale is an excellent reminder for aspiring young indie developers.

Puddle is a physics-based puzzle platformer based around liquid and momentum.

PS3 and Vita owners get Mega Man and Pac-Man in Street Fighter X Tekken

Two of gaming's most iconic characters will soon be getting their fight on in Street Fighter X Tekken exclusively for owners of the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita. Both Capcom and Namco are sending in one of their mascots to do battle.

Capcom's Mega Man joins the fray with a unique version of the character based on the boxart for Mega-Man 1 on the NES. You know, this guy. Based on the trailer it would seem that blue bomber has put on a few pounds over the years. What better way to burn them off than by punishing a few fools?

Not to be outdone, Namco's Pac-Man also enlists riding atop Tekken's wood-man Mokujin and dispensing ass-kickings. Let's just hope that this is his theme music.

Both characters join PS3 and Vita exclusives Cole McGrath from Infamous as well as the Sony Cat Toro and his neighbor Kuro.

Street Fighter X Tekken releases for the 360 and PS3 March 6 in North America and March 6 in Europe. PC and PlayStation Vita versions will follow later.

'Nuts!' Review for iOS

Nuts! iPhone Screenshot

Nuts! ($0.99) is an action arcade game for the iOS that comes to us from Limbic Software, developers of two other iOS titles: TowerMadness and Zombie Gunship.

The premise behind Nuts! is rather cute. Two squirrels, Jake and Miranda, are enjoying a romantic picnic lunch when a raven swoops down and steals their picnic basket. To make matters worse, the basket held a surprise engagement ring for Miranda. Now it’s up to Jake to get his stuff back.

Inside the music of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is less than two weeks away which means we're nearing the end of these developer diaries. This edition sits down with Grant Kirkhope the Audio Director at Big Huge Games and takes us inside the soundtrack of the upcoming action-RPG.

Rather than just composing the music for Reckoning, Grant also provided the sound-design which includes everything from character footsteps to voice-acting. Having previously worked on Banjo-Kazooie, Donkey Kong, and Viva Pinata he was able to stretch into epic territory using a full orchestra. Side note: Can we get some "farting gorilla" DLC for the game? Seriously, you can't just tease me like that.

At the very end of the video Grant apologizes for creating the infamous Donkey Kong Rap heard in Donkey Kong 64. No need to apologize good sir, the world just wasn't ready.

The soundtrack to Reckoning sounds suitably monumental and we only have a couple more days before we'll be hearing it in-game. Huzzah!

Smash Cops iOS Review

Smash Cops iOS Screenshot

When I moved to Southern California 14 years ago one of the first things I was struck by was the abundance of car chases on television. For a variety of reasons this state has more than it’s share of crazy chases involving some lunatic and the police. For awhile it was regular Friday night programming, you could make dinner, grab a drink and wait for the car chase, inevitably ending with the driver face down on the pavement. Smash Cops by London’s Hutch Games aims to bring that vehicular chaos to mobile devices.

Capcom Digital Collection for 360 announced, releases March 27

Capcom Digital Collection Xbox 360

Are you the type that likes to physically own all your games? You know, in case of internet outage during the impending zombie apocalyse or something. Maybe you just procrastinate and forget to download great games on Xbox Live Arcade. Hey we've all done it, no need to be ashamed. Capcom has a deal to help you get everything squared.

Capcom Digital Collection, arriving March 27 for the 360, assembles eight previously available XBLA titles and prints them on one circular disc for $39.99. Those eight games are: Bionic Commando Rearmed 2, 1942: Joint Strike, Final Fight Double Impact, Flock!, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, Rocketman: Axis of Evil with It Came From Uranus expansion, and Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3.

If you don't feel like doing the math, I'll do it for you. That comes to $4.99 per game, not bad considering what these titles originally cost. Capcom promises that each game "preserves all the features, online functionality and Achievements from their download versions".
