PSP Go Confirmed By New Episode Of Qore

The June episode of Sony’s promotional show Qore has jumped the gun on E3 and unveiled the PSP Go, Sony’s new handheld device. Whether this was unintentional, or yet another weekend “leak” only Sony knows. Watch the video and judge for yourself. You can see Veronica Belmont and SCEA’s John Koller demonstrate the device. Oh, and I would be remiss not to say he also mentioned a Metal Gear Solid for the PSP.

Here’s what we know from the video:

  • The screen slides up to access the controls.
  • It contains a 3.8 inch screen.
  • It’s 43% lighter than the PSP-3000
  • Has 16gb of built-in Flash Memory. (yay!)
  • Bluetooth support
  • Has no UMD drive.
  • It’s compatible with PSN game and video downloads.
  • It hits stores in Fall 2009.

Interestingly, Sony doesn’t want the PSP Go to be seen as the successor to the PSP-3000 as the company will keep both handhelds in production and on the market. This is similar to the Nintendo DS and DSi.

Following the leak, Eurogamer has posted a few hi-res pictures of the new handheld (one is shown below).

In my opinion, this is clearly the right direction for Sony and the PSP. Screw UMD’s and memory sticks! This I will buy.
