Shank 2 Review

2010’s award-winning Shank was a rebirth of sorts for the 2D side-scrolling beat ‘em up. It took the button-mashing gameplay of yesteryear’s arcade classics and merged it with a modern comic-book artsyle and gritty story. As great as it was, it wasn’t without it’s faults. In developing the sequel, Klei Entertainment have set out to address some of the common complaints of the original, namely the repetitiveness and soul-crushing difficulty spikes. How did they fare?

Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc HD jumps to XBLA and PSN March 21

Not content resting on his laurels after last year's critically lauded Rayman Origins, the man with no hands returns this March 21 with Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc HD on XBLA and PSN.

Hoodlum Havoc is an HD remake of the third game in Michel Ancel's Rayman platformer series. Originally released in 2004, Rayman must battle an evil black lum named Andre and prevent him from taking over the world with his Hoodlum soldiers.

Also, go buy Rayman Origins. It's great and not enough people did.

With Mass Effect 3 just over a month away, we are finally getting a look at the cast of voice actors lending their voices (and sometimes likeness) to the game.

First we have some series returning favorites. Martin Sheen reprises his role as the mysterious Illusive Man, as does Seth Green playing the pilot Joker, and Tricia Helfer as the Normandy ship A.I. named EDI. Gaming voice veterans Jennifer Hale and Keith "The Arbiter" David return as well, voicing Female Shepard and Captain Anderson respectively.

There are a few new surprises though.

Buy Dragon's Dogma, get Resident Evil 6 demo early

Dragon's Dogma Xbox 360 screenshot

Capcom have given gamers one more reason to purchase their open-world action title Dragon's Dogma when the game releases this May 22 in North America and May 25 in Europe.

New copies of Dragon's Dogma will include a redeemable code granting owners early access to the playable demo of Resident Evil 6 at least four months ahead of it's Nov 20 release date. I say "at least" because Xbox 360 owners will get first dibs on the demo getting it on July 3. PS3 owner's on the other hand have to wait another two months until Sept 4 to start killing international zombies. I'm sure PS3 owners are absolutely thrilled about this.

EA Grand Slam Tennis 2 trailer relives Australian Open semifinal

Last Friday's epic five-hour Australian Open semifinal between Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray is the inspiration for this week's trailer of EA Grand Slam Tennis 2 showing off five minutes of uninterrupted gameplay. The presentation looks remarkably like the real thing, especially having John McEnroe and Pat Cash do commentary. Luckily for us EA left out the killer birds.

Grand Slam Tennis 2 releases on February 14 for the Xbox 360 and PS3.

Insomniac's Ted Price ends studio's involvement with Resistance series

Insomniac CEO Ted Price has taken to YouTube to explain his words from a recent interview that the developer is done making Resistance games.

After three titles, Price feels like "Resistance has reached it's logical conclusion in terms of the story we wanted to tell". He reminds fans that the series isn't finished as Nihilistic are prepping Resistance: Burning Skies for the PlayStation Vita sometime later this year and Sony are "shepherding" future Resistance game development.

How cool is it that the CEO of a major developer would take the time to do this and care what his fans think. This is one of the reasons why Insomniac is such a great place to work. Insomniac is currently working on their four-player co-op shooter Overstrike, the studio's first multiplatform game.

Puddle Review for Xbox 360

Puddle Xbox 360 Review Screenshot

As interesting as the concept of Puddle is, the story behind it’s creation is even better.

Originally developed by six college students in France as their class project, Puddle won a Student Showcase prize at the Independent Gaming Festival at GDC 2010. This brought the game to the attention of Konami who picked it up and are publishing it as a downloadable title for Xbox Live Arcade, PSN and the PS Vita. Those students are now a part of Neko Entertainment and their tale is an excellent reminder for aspiring young indie developers.

Puddle is a physics-based puzzle platformer based around liquid and momentum.
