Resident Evil: Revelations Review

Resident Evil Revelations Review 3ds Jill screenshot

Now is a critical time in the lifespan of the Nintendo 3DS. After stumbling through an anemic launch, the handheld has just begun to rebound thanks to a substantial price drop and the arrival of some good games. With the PS Vita release imminent and mobile gaming eroding their market, Nintendo needs to make a convincing argument these days to sell a $40 handheld game. Capcom makes their case by delivering a full-featured exclusive entry in their survival horror series Resident Evil to the 3DS. Is it worth taking a ride on the Queen Zenobia?

Shank 2 Review

2010’s award-winning Shank was a rebirth of sorts for the 2D side-scrolling beat ‘em up. It took the button-mashing gameplay of yesteryear’s arcade classics and merged it with a modern comic-book artsyle and gritty story. As great as it was, it wasn’t without it’s faults. In developing the sequel, Klei Entertainment have set out to address some of the common complaints of the original, namely the repetitiveness and soul-crushing difficulty spikes. How did they fare?

Puddle Review for Xbox 360

Puddle Xbox 360 Review Screenshot

As interesting as the concept of Puddle is, the story behind it’s creation is even better.

Originally developed by six college students in France as their class project, Puddle won a Student Showcase prize at the Independent Gaming Festival at GDC 2010. This brought the game to the attention of Konami who picked it up and are publishing it as a downloadable title for Xbox Live Arcade, PSN and the PS Vita. Those students are now a part of Neko Entertainment and their tale is an excellent reminder for aspiring young indie developers.

Puddle is a physics-based puzzle platformer based around liquid and momentum.

'Nuts!' Review for iOS

Nuts! iPhone Screenshot

Nuts! ($0.99) is an action arcade game for the iOS that comes to us from Limbic Software, developers of two other iOS titles: TowerMadness and Zombie Gunship.

The premise behind Nuts! is rather cute. Two squirrels, Jake and Miranda, are enjoying a romantic picnic lunch when a raven swoops down and steals their picnic basket. To make matters worse, the basket held a surprise engagement ring for Miranda. Now it’s up to Jake to get his stuff back.

Smash Cops iOS Review

Smash Cops iOS Screenshot

When I moved to Southern California 14 years ago one of the first things I was struck by was the abundance of car chases on television. For a variety of reasons this state has more than it’s share of crazy chases involving some lunatic and the police. For awhile it was regular Friday night programming, you could make dinner, grab a drink and wait for the car chase, inevitably ending with the driver face down on the pavement. Smash Cops by London’s Hutch Games aims to bring that vehicular chaos to mobile devices.

Puzzlejuice Review for iOS

The easiest way for me to describe Puzzlejuice is to say it’s one part Tetris and one part Wordtris, with a dash of chaos mixed in. Both are classic games but imagine playing them simultaneously and you have something that resembles Puzzlejuice. Having spent countless hours playing Tetris since the original Nintendo Gameboy I immediately felt at home. Or so i thought . . . .
